What Chief of House is

Chief of House is an AI-powered family assistant, delivered through iMessage, operated by Chief of House LLC. The assistant is named Wally. It helps you manage your calendar, tasks, meals, shopping, and daily schedule by connecting to your Google account and communicating with you directly via text message.

Information we collect

When you sign up, we collect:

Your name and mobile phone number
Basic information about your family members if you choose to provide it (first names and ages only)
Access credentials for your Google Calendar and Gmail, managed securely through Nylas (our calendar and email integration provider)

As you use Chief of House, we also store:

The text messages you send to and receive from Wally
Tasks, reminders, and other information you ask Wally to track for you
Meal plans and grocery lists you create through Wally
Preferences and facts you share over time (for example, dietary preferences or shopping habits)

Google account access

With your explicit permission, Chief of House accesses the following Google data through Nylas, our calendar and email integration provider:

Google Calendar — to read your events for your daily briefing and add new events when you ask
Gmail (read-only) — to scan incoming email for calendar events (for example, school or sports schedules) and add them to your calendar automatically

We access only the data needed to provide the features you use. We do not sell, share, or use your Google data for advertising, training AI models, or any purpose other than operating Chief of House for you.

You can disconnect Chief of House from your Google account at any time by emailing hi@chiefofhouse.ai or by visiting myaccount.google.com/permissions and revoking access there.

How we use your information

To deliver your daily morning briefing via text message
To respond to messages you send Wally
To add and retrieve calendar events on your behalf
To identify calendar-relevant emails and create events automatically
To generate meal plans and grocery lists based on your preferences
To search for and suggest Amazon products when you ask Wally to order something
To remember your preferences so Wally improves over time

Your messages are processed by Claude, Anthropic's AI model, to understand your intent and generate helpful responses. Anthropic's data handling practices are governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Chief of House does not use your data to train AI models.

Amazon shopping

Chief of House can help you search for products and build Amazon carts on your behalf using the Amazon Product Advertising API. When you ask Wally to order something, we search Amazon and provide product suggestions. We do not store your Amazon account credentials or payment information. All purchases are completed directly through Amazon.

Third-party services

Anthropic (Claude) — AI model used to understand and respond to your messages
Linq — iMessage and SMS delivery infrastructure
Railway — cloud hosting provider where Chief of House runs and your data is stored
Google — Calendar and Gmail data access, as described above
Nylas — calendar and email integration platform that manages the connection between Chief of House and your Google account
Amazon (Product Advertising API) — product search and cart creation for shopping requests
Tavily — web search service used when Wally needs to look up real-time information on your behalf

Children's privacy

Chief of House is designed for adults managing their household. We do not knowingly send iMessages or SMS messages directly to children under 13. If you add family members to your account, information about them is stored only as context for your own Chief of House experience — not to contact them directly.

Data retention and deletion

Your data is retained for as long as you have an active Chief of House account. To request deletion of your account and all associated data, email us at hi@chiefofhouse.ai and we'll process your request within 30 days.

Security

Your Google Calendar and Gmail credentials are managed by Nylas and are not stored directly by Chief of House. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. We do not store your Google account password or your Amazon account credentials.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you via text message before the changes take effect.
